FAIRFIELD, CT/MAY 14, 2013
On Saturday, June 15, 2013 author Javier Robayo will meet and greet customers at the downtown Fairfield University Bookstore, 1499 Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824 (203) 255-7756 and sign copies of his new novel My Two Flags…a classic immigrants’ tale full of poetic prose that will tug at your heart strings and remind you what it means to be an American.
My Two Flags is the story of Antonio Amaya’s life-- revolves around his family, his friends, and one dream: to live in the United States. When the dream becomes reality, the drastic change creates daunting challenges. Antonio endures exclusion and disdain from his new schoolmates by turning his disillusionment inward.
Yearning to belong, he fills the pages of his notebook in the hopes of learning English. But how does a thirteen-year-old overcome language barriers, racial slurs, and bullying while hiding his desire to return to his country from his parents, who have given up everything to live under two flags?
"The classic immigrant's tale is well known in the book world, but no one tells it better than Javier Robayo. I am pleased to highly recommend My Two Flags as a riveting, educational read. This author's writing gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and vibrant life to every scene he pens."
--Jo VonBargen, Texas author and poet, 2012
Javier Robayo arrived in the United States at the age of 13. Unable to utter any more than a few words no American actually used, he began chronicling life in an effort to learn English while he translated. Somewhere along the line, he fell in love with writing. After graduating from high school in 1992, he attended Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania where he met Dr. Elizabeth Curry who taught him the art of refining words through constant rewriting, and encouraged him to write.
My Two Flags is Javier’s third novel. Javier published, The Gaze in March of 2012 guided by the admirable John W. Huffman, (A Wayward Wind, Above All, Tiger Woman, The Baron of Clayhill) Its sequel, The Next Chapter, was published in July of 2012. Javier is an eager young writer ready to satisfy the wishes of his humble audience. Javier lives in Ansonia with his wife and two wonderful daughters--his muses.
